People often say to me "In art, you do so many things..."
Although part of my training was to be able to reproduce a Rembrandt, an Ingres,
my visual journey travels a different road and I quote myself from a
1998 statement in print:
"Sometimes a line of poetry, a beautiful passage of prose, a scholarly concept or a psychological insight will prompt images for a painting. My love for the expressionists, the stain-painters and the calligraphic line will often implement it. But ultimately, it is my keen interest in the ancient and the mystical that is at the core of my work."
I do enjoy meaningful, whimsical and playful commissions. But my training, particularly in Jungian studies, dream analysis, cultural and personal mythology, the fluency of watercolor and calligraphy--finds a home in the language of the spirit, the symbolic, the abstract, the realm of the unseen. |
